Yoga Practice with Madi is a Facebook Group I have been a part of for the past two months. This group features one of my coworkers, Madi, and she starts teaching Yoga. While this group is closed, she sends out invitations to create an atmosphere of women she knows that are interested in building a clientele for her as she graduates from her training courses.
This group is my chosen group to feature because it embodies how to begin a group, and start up a community online. While Madi may be the only admin of the group, she does an excellent job posting Yoga content daily, featuring yoga poses one can try at home, motivational quotes to inspire the members, as well as tips and tricks to bring a meditative relaxation to one’s day.

The members of the group follow suit. Every one of the women in the group supports Madi and each other, which comes at a wonderful time of need following the COVID-19 pandemic. This group is truly one of the highlights of my day. To support and amplify the group community, Madi created an Instagram page to connect with us on more than one social media platform. This broadens her reach and gives members choices on how to support, where to support, and different options when getting involved.

There were no questions or requirements to gain access to the group other than personally knowing Madi and receiving an invitation from her. While she has not fully completed her Yoga teacher training, she is close. Once she has fully gained her certification, I imagine this group quickly growing as she opens the group and allows her clientele to expand to others in the area.

I would classify this group as a success because she has created a community that has made a positive impact on all of her members. Information flows between members and the admin organically, and on a daily basis. Each member brings a different level of knowledge on the topic to the group, while also remaining open to learning more from Madi and the other members. I look forward to remaining a part of this online community, and I am grateful to have been a witness from the very beginning.
